In October 2019, I received an email that made me jump of joy. I was asked to become a speaker at TEDx Université Lyon 3. I said yes, immediately. I had 4 months to get ready for the event.
What was the talk about?
The first challenge was to choose one topic. An idea worth spreading. God, I had no clue where to start. I wanted to talk about being a transcultural (transcending cultures), change and human centered management and so many other things. One little detail, I had just 13 minutes…
After few reviews and many feedback loops. I decided to talk about the topics I am the most experience with: change and living with other cultures. The talk mixed my experience as change agent and as a multilingual. The final topic was:
Transculturality as a facilitator of change.Anne-Cécile Graber
How did it go?
The day before the Talk, I had the opportunity to meet the other amazing 9 speakers. We were coached and had a the opportunity to look at the venue in the morning before the talk. It was a very stressful moment as I wanted to make sure that my message would be understandable. I wanted it to be good.
Once, on stage time flew so fast. I don’t even remember what I said but the feedbacks were good. After, all the stress was gone. I was on my little “nuage” of happiness. I did it. I faced my fears and I shared a message I believe in.
It was such a great learning experience. I grew way more than I though. I had to face my fear of feeling judged, taking the risk to be uncovered as an imposter. I was afraid but I did it anyway. I did it because it scared me. I did it because I knew my message will maybe touche one person. Maybe it could have an impact. I went on stage with the hope to change the world. Maybe not the whole world but the worldview of a few.
I hope that people got inspired to ask more questions to understand others point of view, to look for the roots of the problem and test micro-changes in order to build bridges instead of walls.
I believe we have the keys for a more peaceful and joyful world. We just need to open up to the unknown instead of closing ourselves to the comfort of our own awareness.
The videos are currently being validated by TED which means that in few weeks we should be able to access them on Youtube. I will let you know when it is online as soon as I know it.
